Quite surprisingly this years summer vacation was to be spent on the beautiful of Mauritius. As free time was a rare resource beforehand it has also been one of the first trips of mine to start without any preperation or google`ing hot photo spots.

Starting off with 2 amazing flights with Emirates, both operated by the A380, that have once again shown, just how important service and a modern cabin can be. Kudos to an amazing new In-Flight-Entertainment system. The Airport in Mauritius proved to be a lot better than expected. Very prepared to large amount of passengers and faster than Munich`s outdated Terminal 1.

The Island

Mauritius has only become independent from the british in 1968 resulting in a left-side-of-the-road traffic and perfect english skills in most of the civilization, whilst french is also spoken by most of the people. About half of the island is of Hindu religion (49%) with the indian culture seen in almost every corner of the country. Personally i would also say, that the „indian way of living“ and indian principles like modesty, spirituality, friendship and practicality. (As someone only knowing the indian culture through social media and London that might be wrong)

Whilst Mauritius is offering endless amazing, white-sand beaches the airline does also offer various POI spread across the country. Starting with the „mauritian saint tropez“ (as told to us by a local), continuing with the botanical garden, the capital Port Louis all the way south the Black Forest national park. Locals offer an amount of guided tours through forests or other touristics destinations. However I do prefer exploring a country on my own and choosing my own targets. We have been able to rent out a Hyundai i10 from our Hotel that we took around the island for two days.
Instead of talking through all visited POIs I will have the pictures do that job.

The hotel

Our home for the 9 days has been the Maritim Hotel in the east of the island, offering a beautiful modern double-room for staying. With a blue wrist band, showing that youre an All-Inclusive Guest (like pretty much everyone), the world is yours. An amount of 3 al-a-carte restaurants, one big changing buffet, two bars and a snack bar for the time, the buffet is closed, will offer the guest pretty much everything he could wish for.
